How ceramic glaze recipe scaling works

Illustration of studio balance scale with raw ceramic material bags and percentage labels

Ceramic glaze recipes are usually written as a 100-part base recipe, with colorants (cobalt, copper, iron), opacifiers (zircopax, tin oxide), and suspenders (bentonite) added as percentage additions above 100%.

Material batch weight = Target base weight × (Material base parts ÷ Base recipe total)
